In combination with archaeological investigations geoarchaeological studies provide information about the landscape development in different periods of time. While geoarchaological studies are well established for the lower loess dominated parts of the Rhineland, there is a lack for such studies in the Northern Eifel Mountains. For this the dissertation “Roman land use in the Northern Eifel Mountains Roman settlement and smelting and its impact on the sediments of the upper Urft catchment” supplies a case study of a Roman vicus along the Via Agrippa in a river flood plain in the upper Urft catchment. Here broad archaeological investigations were done. For this the place offers a promising possibility to study onsite- and offsite-points next to each other.
