Indian Institute of Technology Madras - IIT Madras

The IIT Madras, IITM for short, is one of the best technical universities in India. In 2019, it was named Best Educational Institution by the National Institutional Rankings Framework of the Ministry of Human Resource Development in India, as well as the nation’s Best Engineering Institute for the fourth time in a row. The university is located in Chennai, the capital of the South Indian state Tamil Nadu and was founded in 1959 with German support. The close relationship is still being maintained to this day. The cooperation with ITTM is the first bilateral university partnership at RWTH Aachen. RWTH is very involved in the development of the Indo-German Center for Sustainability, which is located at IITM. Like all Indian Institutes of Technology, IITM is specifically focused on engineering, but also offers natural sciences, English studies, and business and economics. The admissions exam for the IITs is one of the toughest in the world, and studying there is just as challenging, so its students are very motivated. The IIT Madras campus is situated in a large nature park in the south of Chennai. Besides diverse flora and fauna, it offers all the amenities of daily life: shopping center, medical center, a gym, and much more.
